Gear failures have a major impact on the reliability of many machines and
the importance of monitoring and fault diagnostic of gears is very large. By
monitoring the condition gets an insight into the state and can take the
maintenance activities that prevent greater damage on machines and plants.
This paper analyzes the possible causes of gear failures, the proposal was
given to the methodology of diagnostic, as well as a proposal for monitoring
the state in view of the most important causes of failure.
